Assorted Crepe Myrtle Cuttings
Crepe Myrtle (Lagerstroemia indica) Care:
They prefer full sunlight and regular watering (especially important in their growing season). When transferring to its life as a bonsai, we recommend soil that drains well. At the nursery we use a mix of equal parts red lava, black lava, Hyuga Pumince, and Akadama.
Dwarf Crepe Myrtle are some of our favorite miniature deciduous trees as they are hardy and have beautiful fall colors of tiny leaved yellows, oranges, and reds. This dwarf crepe myrtle has the added benefit of having very small leaves under 1/4 of an inch to 1/2 of an inch, and blooms in the summer very close to the trunk only extending a couple of inches before blooming for a few lovely weeks. Crepe Myrtle is very hardy and tolerates trimming, wiring, and frequent repotting as long as these steps are done at the correct time for your area. Our 4" pots are 1 to 2 years old with flexible trunks to wire, and our 6" pots are 3 to 5 years old with great canopies and plenty of branches to work with thicker trunks of around 1/4"-3/8". These are slow growers unlike the full sized Crepe Myrtles, but that's what makes these dwarf trees so desirable for bonsai. These trees are just a fantastic addition to any collection, and we absolutely love them. We hope that you will too.
